Nature’s dots

Nature’s Dots is a landscape book for blind people set in the “riserva delle Torbiere”.

It’s was designed by Elisabetta Bianchessi with many collaborators and I was asked to draw the illustrations of the animals present in the books and to plan a map-folded-book structure for the pubblication.

The book represents plans, sections and views of one of the most amazing places in Italy, and it includes in its drawing the explanation of the landscape project designed by E.Bianchessi: two small pavillion designed for birdwatching, connected by a natural path.

The goal was to use braille sign, not as letters, but as tactile graphic sign, in order to explain the visual and tactile characteristics of the different landscape and to give a scientific-artistic description to the users.

This is why we elaborated a chart with different shapes and signs, to be included in a legend so the reade would understand each element of the landscape.

For exemple the fragmitas has its own sign (triangles) and grass is represented by smal lines; the fishes are made by dots and small arches…

All the drawins were made using autocad (so we could print the braille) and the view wer elaborated using autocad+illustrator and photoshop.
